It Sure is Quiet Around Here…

It’s just Brad, Harper, and me this week!

Just the 3 of Us This Week

Kate and Sara Paige flew to New Mexico Sunday afternoon with Aunt Jenna to spend the week with Brad’s parents. I miss these two like crazy.

Sissy

I made the girls pouches to bring back some of their New Mexico treasures. They are intentionally not that big! I’m pretty sure they would try to stuff Mimi, Poppy, and Jenna in there to bring home if they could.

I’m not really sure what to do with all this silence! Harper totally doesn’t mind if I catch up on all of my Real Housewives and Design Star shows :) It’s been SO nice not to have “three-two-zero” (the Disney channel) on. I’ve been practicing my crochet, doing some housekeeping (minimal), and totally relaxing. It is definitely not overrated!

Harper and Mommy

Brad and I were thinking and we haven’t been kid-free since we went to Mexico for our 5th anniversary (two years ago). We are counting this week as kid free. It turns out going from three to one kids is a breeze. I wish I knew that when I just had one! Or two!

This & That

I love this picture; it cracks me up. Sara Paige always sucks her thumb, Kate is exasperated with the camera, and Harper is like “whatever.” I’m totally going to frame it.

The Girls

In other news, this cutie pie will be 4 months old on Friday!

Sweet Girl

I thought she needed a big ‘ol Texas sized hair bow for summer. Poor Brad. He is surrounded by so much pink and so many large head accessories, I think his head might burst sometimes.

Sara Paige is getting ready to start preschool for the first time ever and I *know* she’ll love it! She will be in the lady bug class and needed a nap mat. You may think this is ridiculous since I have a free nap mat tutorial, but I bought her’s this year. Sometimes it’s just easier and faster to buy than make, ya know? And time is so precious these days. I always love seeing pictures of your cute little ones on the nap mats you make though :)

Big Helper

Only four weeks until Kate starts kindergarten! She is very excited and talks about it daily.

Dancing Girl

This is a picture by Kate of the live rat (ugh) we saw in the pool at my mom’s last week. I had to fish it out BY MYSELF (yuck, yuck, yuck). I hurled it over the fence and was screaming and jumping up and down like an idiot. The golfers had a great laugh.

I *finally* put the binding on this big picnic quilt I made last November. I’m so glad to have it done! Now if it could just get to be less than 100 degrees outside, we could use it outside :)

Family

Last night Harper had her first taste of rice cereal and it was a riot!

Next week my fabulous in-laws and sister-in-law are going to watch Kate and Sara Paige for a week in Angel Fire. I cannot wait to have some down time and pay these two lots and lots of attention…

Love

Hope you are having a good week!

Farmer’s Wife Quilt-a-long

If you’re a quilter and online at all, you have probably heard about the Farmer’s Wife Quilt-a-long going on over in this Flickr group! The book is really interesting; read the Amazon description for more information. Anyway, there are 111 quilt blocks and this Flickr group is so much fun. Everyone shares their quilt blocks and at the end, we’ll all have a larger sampler quilt. I’m going to use mine as a big picnic quilt for our family. Here are the first blocks I made.

The Garlands Go Peach Picking

Yesterday morning we drove up to the Red River Peach Orchard in Gainesville, TX to pick these delicious babies. Can’t you just smell them through the screen?

The Garlands Go Peach Picking!

As it turns out, Brad is quite the peach tree climber.

Kate thought it was so much fun to pick her own peaches.

She snacked on a peach or two while picking (hey, a working girl gets hungry).

Harper was laid back and did really well with the heat (it was 103 degrees by 9:30am).

And Sara Paige …. well, she was none too thrilled.

What started off as a little grumpiness,

turned into whining.

Which turned into the infamous two-year-old “screaming and refusing to walk” fit.

After we filled up two huge buckets, the girls cooled off with some ice cream and all was better with the world.

It was really fun and I think we’ll go back next year. I do wish peaches grew in November – it would make for much cooler picking :)
