If you like to quilt and are in the area, you *totally* need to come to a Dallas Modern Quilt Guild meeting. The next one is Thursday October 14th at 7pm (Bernina Sewing Center of Dallas). I’m telling you, these are the nicest, funniest, talentedest (I know) people around. Or if you’re just interested in quilting, come stop by! Everyone is very welcoming.
We have a “Show & Tell” each meeting (one of the best parts)! In September, a member was sharing a few precious baby quilts she made for Quilts for Kids. I had never heard of the organization, but was intrigued. Basically what you do is go to their website and request a quilt kit. They send you fabric and a pattern to make a quilt. You provide the thread and batting. Once the quilt is complete, you send it back and Quilts for Kids gives the quilt to a child in need.
This is their mission statement: “Transforming discontinued, unwanted and other fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse.”
As soon as I got home from the meeting last month, I ordered a quilt kit. A few days later, the package with a pattern and fabric arrived.
Kate helped me spread out the fabric and piece the quilt. We talked a lot about who this quilt was for and how it would make a little boy who was feeling yucky in the hospital feel a little bit better. She totally got it and loved helping. She even made her own quilt (by tying fabric together) for her sick stuffed animals. Kids are amazing and so perceptive.
The pattern was simple and it was fun to work with boy fabric. Hopefully this quilt will go to a big camping fan or boy scout.
This was the first project I’ve really worked on in eons and it felt so good to get out of my non-crafting rut and make something for someone else.

Love it, Jenny! I need to get a kit, too.
This is awesome! My mom used to be in charge of her guild’s Kids Quilts operation and I’ve always thought this is such an amazing project. I’m thrilled to learn about the Quilts for Kids organization!
Wow Jenny!!! It turned out so great:) I love that Kate helped you with it, that is too sweet.
That is SO great…turned out just beautiful and I’m sure it will make some little guy really happy! What a fun project to do with your sweet girl! Yay for you both!
Awesome! I want to do one of these at some point!
I think I’m going to give this a try! I love projects and for such a great cause!
