Quilt Block of the Day: Flying Geese

Flying Geese

Size: 8 1/2″, 8″ finished

Difficulty Level: Easy

Block Type: Square

Cut (2) 4 7/8″ red squares.

Cut (2) 4 7/8″ aqua squares.

1. Slice each square once on the diagonal to create half square triangle.

2. Lay out half square triangles like the photo.

3. Sew half square triangles right sides together. Press open seams.

4. Sew top two squares right sides together. Press open seams.

Sew bottom two squares right sides together. Press open seams.

5. Sew rows right sides together. Press open seams.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. All the books show a different way of doing flying geese and I have had the worst time with it. But I love the way you put it together. Take care.

    I have been looking around at different flying geese tutorials out there and dreading having to buy a special ruler and cut triangles. It didn’t hit me until I saw this post that one flying geese unit is made up of two half-square triangles! I’m seriously kicking myself right now for not having figured that out.
