There are so many things I love about quilting. One of my favorite things is the feeling of comfort and peace I feel when snuggled up in a handmade quilt.
Candace is collecting quilt blocks forĀ Layla Grace and her siblings. As I was sewing a few blocks for Layla Grace this morning, I started to think about another young girl who’s been on my mind for months and months. Have you read about Kate McRae? She is just the most adorable, sweetest thing you have ever seen. She was supposed to start kindergarten this past year but was abruptly diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in August. Kate’s parents, Holly and Aaron, write about her treatment and their struggles. I cannot begin to imagine what the McRae family has been through and they have a long road ahead of them.

Which leads me to this… I would LOVE to make a quilt for Kate and her siblings, Will and Olivia. If you would like to help by making a block, I would be ever so grateful
You can make any block with any fabric, as long as it measures 8″. If you are interested, leave a comment and I will send you my address to mail the block to. I would love to receive all the blocks by April 1st.
Thanks so much

I’d love to pitch in. I’ve quilted before and have quite a few scraps. Let me know if you still need help. Thanks!
Yes! I’m in!!!! What a sweet idea!
Very cool Jenny! I would love to help but I can’t quilt
Also, one of my good friends is best friends with Layla’s mom. Small world. What a little fighter that girl!!
You have an amazing heart and I know those families will be forever greatful for the time you spent thinking and quilitin for them!!
Wow, that is a small world. Layla is one tough little cookie.
i’m in! no specific colors or style or anything??
So…I might need a lesson in quilting. But I’d love to do it! I have been praying for little Kate for a while…what a fighter!
I would love to make a square for each of them!
Jenny, you are such an amazing person. If there were only a way to clone you. Count me in. I will do a square for each. I will attempt to do two each but will definitely do one each. Let me know if you need more.
Please count me in as well. I’ve been following Kate’s story since her diagnosis and it is both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. Holly and Aaron’s faith in the midst of such struggle brings me to my knees. And Kate is full of such spunk even while battling cancer. An amazing little girl!
Thank you for doing this!
you guys are the BEST! just emailed you…
I’ll do a block. Despite being your husband I know nothing of quilting but have a soft spot for little ladies named Kate. So I’m in!
I am a friend of Kristi Kelly. I think this is great! I would love to do a block, and if you get enough, can we make a quilt for the siblings, too.
Super – just emailed you, Michelle!
Brad, you’re cute. I’ll show you how to make a quilt block
Hi,
I would like to contribute a few blocks as well. Do you have a specific color scheme in mind?
I will do a block. I read about Layla Grace last week when Melinda posted on FB and my heart has been heavy and broken since. I want to do anything to help these sweet babes and their family.
Just emailed you guys, thanks!
I’ll be sewing quilt blocks until you tell me to stop! I think you said any block with any fabric, right? Are you planning 3 separate quilts (one for each sibling) or one for all?
Hey Candace! Fantastic
I’m so, so happy people want to help. Any block with any fabric. Yes, there will be one quilt for each sibling (three total).
Fantastic idea…since I don’t quilt, I’ll keep you all in my prayers for what you’re doing. I follow sweet Kate and it just breaks my heart what they are going through. I just found out about Layla and my heart broke again. Can’t understand why these sweet babies have to go through this…so sad…but I’ll keep praying. Can’t wait to see the end result of the awesome job you all are doing! Good luck!
I would LOVE to contribute a block for sweet little Kate and her brave and loving siblings! I have never created a quilting block, but am willing to give it a shot for these amazing and strong children. Thanks for doing this Jenny!
Kim – just emailed you
me too!! jenny what a blessing you are giving this family, to know that so many people are wishing this sweet child a quick recovery and to be given such a gift to wrap around her heart. plus the ones to give the siblings, show that the love for them is just as important. many prayers to this family. please include me in a block. though i am still learning, the only one i would know how to do, is the first one that we recently made, but i would love to do it!!! let me know if this works out ok. xo
Wow. This story just tugs at your heart strings! What a beautiful little girl. I’d love to help out. Could you also confirm: 8″ finished or 7.5″ finished?
I would love to make a few blocks. What a great idea.
Amy, Melanie, and Jamie – just emailed you guys

Hi, Jenny! I would like to contribute, too. My prayers go out to both families. My friend’s little boy also has neuroblastoma. It breaks my heart, but it’s amazing what fighters these babies are. And you are super awesome for organizing this. Thanks! K
Jenny,
I would be honored to do a block for this precious little girl. Thank you for offering to do something so wonderful for this family. I am positive that this quilt will bring a smile to this little girl’s face knowing that all these amazing people were willing to put their time into making blocks! Thank you to everyone else for your efforts:-)
Jenny,
Count me in! This will be my first block EVER, but my sweet, gracious friend Darcy (see comments above) has agreed to help me. This is a great thing that you are doing!

I’m out of town until Wednesday but will pull out my scraps later this week and mail you my blocks early next week sometime. Will that work? I think this is such a great thing you’re doing!!!!
