I don’t know if I have mentioned my extreme aversion toward ants before. Hate ‘em. All of ‘em. With a passion. Last year we had a HUGE ant problem. They had nests below the slab, underneath the kitchen. The little jerks would wiggle their way through some microscopic hole and check out what I was cooking everyday. I tried to tell them to go back where they came from. I reasoned with them and relayed that most everything I make is a huge disaster. They didn’t listen. My final straw was when they got into a closed peanut butter jar in the pantry. Ergh. I had the pest guys come out for the thousandth tenth time in a month and they finally used something strong enough to get rid of them. I rearranged my pantry and everything has been in clear, plastic, labeled bins since. Try to get through that suckers. Who’s the genius now, ants?
(Yes, I enjoy taunting them.)
I hadn’t thought much about them lately because it’s been almost 6 months since our duel. After I put the girls to bed tonight, I was emptying the trash in my craft room (fabric scraps and empty Diet Coke cans) when I felt a sting on my arm. I looked down and saw a bunch of red fire ants all over me. I calmly frantically brought the trash to the garage to investigate terminate them with Raid. I went back inside to spray too but didn’t see any more. I sprayed anyway and opened a window. Then I started to puff up. (I’m not a cute when puffy type of person, FYI). Brad wasn’t home and the girls were in bed and of course we didn’t have any adult Benadryl. Enter super neighbor, Tanya. She ran to the store to get me Benadryl. How nice is that? I took two.
I’m still bright red in about ten spots but the itching and burning has stopped and the swelling has gone waaaaay done. I am feeling super tired loopy and am about to head to bed. Earlier I was working on some Christmas stockings as the Benadryl kicked in. Once I kept sewing things the wrong way I thought I better stop.
On a completely unrelated note, have you guys seen the So You Think You’re Crafty (SYTYC) challenge? It’s sooooo awesome. Go check it out!
From the site: “Every week there will be a new theme. The featured crafters will submit their best craft that uses that theme. Then it’s up to you to chose the best one! Each week’s winning craft will be posted as a tutorial to give us a chance to try our hand at it. However, the crafter with the least votes will be “sent home.”

Oh no! You poor thing! Sounds like you have an awesome neighbor though…how cool! Glad you are on the mend. I HATE ants too…especially in my house. A couple calls to an exterminator took care of them about two years ago. We have an awful time with centipedes, a.k.a. BIG CREEPY BUG, in our house…they are always in the garage and find their way in! If we see them in the garage, I have the Big Bad Bug Killer attack them with roach spray..works like a charm. If I see them in the bathtub, hot water instantly kills and drowns them too. Can’t stand those! Oh, on a different subject, great Halloween pics of the girls…SO adorable! :O)
It was no big deal girl! I was glad I was able to help with relieving the itching and swelling but not the getting you drunk off benedryl.
