Phew! Cabin Fever… and Pattern Testers?

This past week has been crazy. Kate’s preschool called last Wednesday and told me to get my booty up there asap because she felt sick and had a fever. When I walked in the office, Kate looked as pitiful as I’ve ever seen her. She had tears streaming down her hot, sweaty face and  she was so sad. On our way out, I was carrying Sara Paige, Kate’s backpack, nap mat, and holding Kate’s hand. All the sudden, Kate winced and said “I’m going to be sick.” Side note: when Kate says that, she means it. I dropped everything (except Sara Paige) and we ran to the bathroom. We got there in the nick of time. I was trying to hold back one child’s hair and whisper soothing words while she hovered over the toilet, all the while balancing a fidgety 8 month old. Not a pretty sight. Anyhow, we finally made it home.

A trip to the doctor’s office confirmed it was a virus and not the flu. By the way, do you know how they test for the flu? They shove a cotton swab up your nose and I mean way on back there. Just the kind of thing that makes a sick three year old jubilant, ya know?

Do you know what the doctor suggested? That I keep Kate and Sara Paige separated because the virus was highly contagious. Oh, really? And just how am I supposed to do that? I suppose I’ll just leave Sara Paige in her crib all day or lock Kate in her room. Seriously, lady. I felt like punching her in the face.

So we have been quarantined to the house since last Wednesday. Kate felt a little better Monday but not well enough to go to preschool. She’s finally better now. Tonight we ventured out for dinner and it felt oh so glorious to see people. People other than my people. Beloved as they may be, Mama needs a break. Tomorrow, girlfriend is going to school come hell or high water :)

On a completely unrelated note… I have designed my first original quilt pattern (yippee, yippee, you’re going to love it!!) and I need some lovely pattern testers! Anyone interested? Leave a comment and I will email you with more info.

Here’s hoping the rest of this week goes smoother than last!

What do you have to do to be a pattern tester?

  2. jenny says:

Hi Jeni. I send you my written/illustrated instructions to make the quilt top I designed. You make the quilt top and provide detailed feedback about what was unclear or didn’t make sense about the directions so I can fix any glitches I missed before publishing.

wow! what a crazy day with Kate! I’m sure glad she is feeling better. I am not looking forward to the day that my little girl is that sick. I sure hop your week gets back to normal soon!!

If you do not get any more takers, I will gladly test your quilt pattern! I’m pretty much a beginner, so be prepared. :)

  4. So, I’ve never quilted before (except for basic squares…) but if a beginner can be a tester, I’d love to be one!

  5. Melanie says:

I am currently working on a quilt, but might be able to do it next! How soon do you need the feedback? I would love to try it.

Poor thing! Me and My kids all went through that virus thing that was going around a little over a month ago… not fun. BTW… Let me know if you need any more testers and I would be happy to give you feedback on it. Congrats on your first design! Can’t wait to see it.

Awww…bummer for Kate. Hope she’s on the mend soon and I’ll pray that sweet Sara Paige doesn’t get it…nor you guys for that matter. I can’t believe the doctor said that! Crazy! Hang in there!

    Hi Jen!

I hope your little one is feeling much better. You are a riot!!! I’m at work reading your email and I’m laughing my buns off. Seriously, I can TOTALLY relate. Thanks for cheering up my morning.

  9. I know the feeling about sick babies! And Mommies, I got sick and they told me to stay away, but I am a stay at home mom. Serioiusly was I supposed to leave my 8 month old in the crib while I was sick?

But I would LOVE to hear more about the pattern and test it!!!!
