Stash buster … bibs and burp cloths

I needed to whip up some new bibs and burp cloths for Miss Baby Garlando due in early February. I used fabric scraps to make these last week and it was a great way to use up bits of this and that. I serged the bibs instead of turning and topstitching (T&T) because, well … they’re going to get gross anyway! The burp cloths are ridiculously easy to embellish but I think the fabric adds some spunkiness, you know?

‘LOVE the burp cloths and bibs!! I especially love the fabrics. I’ve been trying to find “fun” fabric online. Any sites you recommend for ordering? We have 1 fabric store, here where I live, and they don’t have much of a selection. It’s time to start cracking on my christmas gift ideas. :) Keep up the blog! I love to see what fun things you’ve been up to!! :)

I love your fabrics! Where do you find such cute fabrics?? I’ve been working on some crafts lately and might steal your idea and post them on my blog too! Too bad we didn’t ever get together to craft while I was living in TX.

WHATTT!!! You MADE all these! ! ! WOW! Those are super cute, and I love the Hooter Hiders! I bought one online and it was very useful, but I’m sure it would be lots cheaper to make. You go girl!

Hey Jenny! I love your site. I had no idea you were so crafty! I would love to know how to make those bibs… I am in MAJOR need of bibs right now. The fabrics are also awesome!
    How have you been feeling?

    Thanks so much, guys!
About the fabric…Some of my favorite fabric designers are Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner, Michael Miller, Amy Butler, and Heather Ross. You can find their fabric lines by just googling. I’m not sure if there is a Hobby Lobby by everyone but they have 40% off coupons you can sign up for online and use toward a cut of fabric. I like Hobby Lobby fabric as a general rule more than Joann’s. Hobby Lobby usually has lots of Michael Miller too :) That’s definitely the most economical way to go (with the coupon). I also love looking at local quilting stores for funky fabrics but they can run anywhere from $8-9.50/yd most of the time. For knits (stretchy fabrics) and velour, I love Sewzanne’s (an online store). She has awesome customer service and great prices. HTH!
About the Hooter Hider… aren’t those funny? I didn’t even know they existed when Kate was born a whopping 2 years ago. Definitely cheaper to make them than shell out $35!
Melissa, I know! Why didn’t we get together to sew when you were here? We’ll have to do it virtually :)
Lisa, feeling pretty good, thanks for asking! Kate’s down for a nap and I’m about to take one too :) About making bibs, do you have a sewing machine? I’d be happy to help show you how to do it.

JENNY!! Please help me! How did you do the burp cloths?? And to you have a pattern for the bibs? I can make pants and purses, but I have ruined many a burp cloth trying to do exactly what you did. And I LOVE the shape of your bib.
ANY help will be greatly appreaciated!!
    Thanks!

Jan, I just traced a baby bib I liked the shape of and added 1/2″ seam allowance to it to make a pattern.
For the burp cloths, cut a rectangle 1/2″ larger on all sides than what you want to show. Then iron the 1/2″ to the wrong side of the fabric on all sides of the rectangle. So that way when you look at the rectangle from the right side of the fabric, there are no raw edges. I used a zig zag stitch and after pinning the fabric to the burp cloth, sewed around the fabric. Hope to help!!
